Background
My consultancy worked almost exclusively with independent restaurants, boutique retailers, and local service businesses. Over eight years, I helped hundreds of small business owners get found online — building out their presence, sharpening how they told their story, getting them in front of the right people. I understood the mechanics of discovery better than most.
I also watched just as many great businesses fail because nobody could find them. A 40-year-old hardware store. A family-run taqueria that had been feeding a neighborhood for two generations. Places that deserved to be packed every day — and sometimes weren’t, because the algorithm didn’t favor them and the review count wasn’t there yet. That stuck with me.
After eight years of working the business side of this, I wanted to do something that put the places themselves at the center. Not rankings. Not popularity metrics. Actual businesses, covered with the specificity and context they deserve. That’s what Crafted Local Guide is.
What I Cover on Crafted Local Guide
Every guide here is built on actual visits and real knowledge of what makes an independent business worth seeking out. I write about the story behind the place — why a restaurant does things a certain way, what it takes to keep a boutique open for two decades, what a neighborhood shop offers that a chain never could. I always include the practical details too: price range, whether you need a reservation, the best time to go, where to park. Enthusiasm without logistics isn’t useful to anyone.
What I don’t cover: chain restaurants, national franchises, or anything chosen because it photographs well. I’m not interested in writing about what’s already on every top-10 list. The readers who come here are asking where the real version of something is — and that’s the only question I’m trying to answer.
